Thanks to Goodwill I Can Steal Jessica Lowndes’s Look for Less than $25…What Mommy Wore!

Back at the beginning of the month (or the end of last month, can’t remember which), PopSugar posted a Look of the Day that featured Jessica Lowndes (who plays Adrianna Tate-Duncan on the tv show 90210) sporting a super-cute look that I fell in love with due to its simplicity and perceived  comfort level.  Unfortunately, it featured a Tory Burch Thorri striped top that I knew would probably not be in my budget any time soon.  But, I tucked the photo into my inspirations folder “just in case” because I might win the lottery one of these days if you can do that without purchasing a ticket.  Here’s Jessica’s lovely outfit:

Of course, a few days later the wonderful ladies over at 100 Inspirations, who are the best at duplicating celeb looks for those of us on a budget, came up with an amazing alternative for around $113!  Still, that constituted my clothing budget for two months, so I had to use my resources…and here’s what I found…

Mossimo army jacket, Old Navy jeans, Guess booties, Express striped shirt, rabbit hair scarf

Jeans:  Old Navy, thrifted from the White Settlement Goodwill (with tags still on)- $4.19

Army Style Jacket:  Mossimo, thrifted from the Saginaw Goodwill– $5.99

Striped top:  Express, thrifted from the Goodwill Boutique– $4.99

Booties:  Guess, thrifted from the Rufe Snow Goodwill– $7.00

Scarf:  no idea on the brand, but it’s tag says it’s mainly rabbit hair-thrifted from the Saginaw Goodwill– $1.99

GRAND TOTAL:  $24.16! Just goes to show you can shop second hand and still look like a star 😉  Oh how I LOVE Goodwill!

I will be honest though-I didn’t really care for the scarf, as it was a little constricting for me.  Here’s how I actually wore the look:

Old Navy jeans, Express striped shirt, Mossimo jacket, Guess booties

This was actually super comfortable and perfect for a day when the weather was a little cooler.  I could have really copied Jessica by wearing my hair down, but the second day pony tail (which looked slightly train-wreckish by the end of the day when the photo was taken) worked.  I gave it the Mommy thumbs up for comfort, stylishness and the ability to pick up a child without showing anything indecent.  What do you think–thumbs up, thumbs down, thumbs neutral…worth duplicating again?  I would love to hear your thoughts!

So a big thank you goes out to Jessica Lowndes for having great style for us to rip off and thanks to the Fort Worth area Goodwill’s for having such fabulous finds!  MUAH right on the mouth!!

‘Til next time,

Nicole

What I Wore Wednesday (a day late)

Fortunately for me, Lindsey over at The Pleated Poppy had a week like I did and posted her weekly What I Wore Wednesday a day late. Whew! This week, again, has been busy, but the reason I didn’t get to post yesterday was because I was celebrating my three year anniversary with my hubby! I married this amazing guy down in Mexico in a little sleepy town that no one really knows about, on the beach at sunset. We had 24 of our closest friends and family with us, and although the weather was unbearably hot, everyone stuck it out and had a good time. So baby, here’s to you, the love of my life and the saint that you are, thanks for putting up with me, for loving me through better AND worse, and for being my best friend.  You make this crazy life worthwhile!!

Anyway, enough of my lovesick blathering, here’s my week (for the most part):

Thursday-hair appointment

Shirt:  Thrifted and refashioned

Cargo Pants: thrifted

Shoes: Thrifted years ago and recently rediscovered in the back of my closet!

Friday-We drove from North Texas to Eastern New Mexico for my husband’s 20 year reunion, so we were in the car most of the day.  I forgot to take a photo that night when we went out, but here’s what I wore (just taken a few days later when I unpacked it).  Please excuse the fact that the photo does it no justice.  The top is one of my favorites and you can’t even see it 😦

Black Cowl Neck Jersey Top (with pockets): Target

Jeans: Big Star

Booties: Guess, thrifted

Saturday-Dinner and dance for the reunion

Dress:  Ross from probably three years ago

Shoes: black patent BCBG, thrifted

Necklace: Brighton (thanks Mom!!)

Sunday-we spent most of the day driving back and by the time we got home late that night, I did not feel like taking a picture!  Then we got up on Monday and noticed that Fat Dog’s neck was all swollen and that he just wasn’t himself.  We called our vet, took him in and the initial diagnosis was Cushing’s Disease.  For those that don’t know what that is, it’s a disease of the endocrine (hormonal) system that is caused by either a pituitary problem or an adrenal tumor.  The adrenal gland sits on top of the kidneys and secretes hormones, mainly the steroids that the body needs.  His is in super production mode, making him very sick.  I cried most of the day and was not about to take puffy eyed pictures in my non-descript t-shirt and jeans.  I’m sure you understand 😦

Tuesday-Vet and various errands

Dress:  Old Navy, thrifted

Shoes: Bandolino, thrifted years ago

Pin: Macy’s on sale for $2!  This dress is a large and makes me look like I’m wearing a tent, but I love that it’s linen and that it’s nice and breezy in this hot Texas heat.  A pin at the waist is a better way to show some definition rather than altering the item, especially since we’re going to start trying for a second baby here shortly and I want to be able to wear it when I’m pregnant!

Wednesday-anniversary dinner (sushi!!) and a movie

Dress:  Ann Taylor Loft, thrifted

Sweater:  Macy’s

Shoes: Ralph Lauren, thrifted

On my handsome hubby, his jeans are Affliction that he pays a fortune for, but that have lasted him over three years (and look great on him) and shirt, Men’s Warehouse.  J2 shops 1-2 times a year and therefore spends more on clothes.  That seems fair to me-I shop a lot and spend a little, he shops infrequently and spends a lot more!!  LOL!

That’s it for this week.  I love participating in this link party as it really makes me think about what I wear.  If you haven’t already, pop on over to The Pleated Poppy and join the fun.
